About Suzaine Smith
Suzaine Smith Studio Suzaine Fine Art “I grew up in a world of color, a world of sparkle and a world of nature. My art is an organic form of self-expression celebrating all those things in life that sing to me in full color. When I paint and create from the heart, I connect with people on a level unlike any other and the joy I feel is shared.” Suzaine Smith grew up in the beautiful Appalachain and Blue Ridge Mountains in Southern West Virginia. She is the daughter of the 27th Governor of West Virginia and at a young age was exposed to many West Virginia artisans and their glorious work as they were proudly displayed all throughout the West Virginia Governor’s Mansion. Her mother completely renovated the Governor’s mansion placing it on the National Register of Historic Places and employed the world-renowned expertise of Interior Designer, Carlton Varney. Suzaine was greatly influenced by the vibrancy of color that danced throughout the Governor’s mansion known as signature Carlton Varney design. Suzaine’s exposure to fine art and high-style interior design continued to blossom as she grew older. Some of her favorite memories of growing up in West Virginia took place during summers at The world famous Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, WV spent with her family. The grand colorful interiors of this famous resort is also the exquisite work of Carlton Varney and Dorothy Draper. The direct influence of her mother and Carlton Varney led Suzaine to pursue an exciting career in interior design. It wasn’t until later in life at the insistence of her closest friend and her oldest sister that she elected to follow her heart and paint. Suzaine works mostly with oil and acrylic and is expanding to include more mixed media work. Her signature is her use of color. The beauty of nature especially the movement of water fascinates Suzaine. All animals both great and small inspire her work. Vibrant florals and wedding dresses also capture Suzaine’s attention....’It’s really about the day to day experiences and interactions that deserve an artist’s eye to celebrate recognition and pass it on.”
